Skiing Valmeinier - three small valleys, big fun!

The sweeping ski region is a small version of les Trois Vallées. Actually, the foundation for the famous 3 Valleys should have been placed in Valmeiner. However, in 1946 the residents of the village argued against the idea, and as a result Courchevel was built a little further north. Valmeiner was first developed in 1986, finally allowing a 3-valley ski area to emerge. Charming Valmenier is, therefore, free from the tattering of previous years, and the dreamy pistes, broad slopes and deep valleys are not at all inferior to those of the Trois Vallées. Valmeinier und Valloire lie in the sun-drenched Maurienne Valley in the middle of the National Parks of Ecrins and Vanoise. The mountain pass road from Valloire to Col du Galibier is legendary as the highest alpine pass in the Tour de France. Valmeinier 1500 is a picturesque mountain village with old, traditional stone houses. Valmeinier 1800 is, in comparison, a young ski station built to fit into the surrounding mountain landscape. The chalets, furnished in wood, are grouped in a horseshoe-shape around the valley station, so that you can reach the sun terraces of the cosy cafes on skis. You'll also find numerous restaurants, bars, shops and 3 cinemas, all just a few metres away!
